Palestinian Authority distorts Holocaust on same day as Bondi massacre

Ephraim D. Tepler|

On the very day that Jews were massacred at Bondi Beach, official PA TV aired Holocaust distortion yet again. And as if that were not enough, it re-broadcasted the Holocaust distortion segment at the same time the very next day.

The program featured comments by Hassan Hmeid, a regular columnist at official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, who openly questioned core facts of the Holocaust. While claiming to oppose Nazi crimes, Hmeid dismissed the historical record by casting doubt on the number of Jewish victims, describing it as a set of "modern legends." In the same breath, he accused Israelis of inflating Jewish suffering and implicitly likened Israel to the Nazis.

Official PA daily regular columnist from Syria Hassan Hmeid: "We are all against what Hitler did to the Jews. You can say the number is bigger or smaller, you can say there were no gas [chambers], in any case, I am against someone being killed in this way. I say, the Israeli should look well in the mirror… You [Israelis] also have new lies, which you have inflated too much when you say that in the Holocaust who knows how many millions died. No! People died, and we are sorry about that. I personally am sorry that these people died, but not [many millions]. These are modern legends."

Official PA media routinely denies or distorts the Holocaust. It appropriates the Holocaust as an alleged crime committed by Israel against the Palestinians even more frequently.

The last time Palestinian Media Watch reported on this was on November 27, and we noted that Holocaust denial and Antisemitic demonization are central tools in the PA's broader strategy to incite hatred and justify violence against Jews. What followed in Australia perfectly illustrates why ignoring this hate-speech matters.

Antisemitic violence does not emerge in a vacuum. When the PA and its echoes around the world repeatedly deny, distort, or exploit the Holocaust, they normalize hatred of Jews and help create a climate in which attacks on Jews are perceived as understandable, justified, or even deserved.
